PEOPLE in Cornwall are being asked to support a Badminton England initiative by 'giving badminton a go in 2012'.
There are a lot of badminton clubs in the county which are thriving at both senior and junior levels, and open their doors to welcome players of any age or on-court ability.
Yet the numbers of people playing in clubs, both for fun and competition across the county do not stack up to the national statistics.
For every one club in Cornwall there are five in Devon - and it is starting to have an impact on how the county competes at a local level.
Despite an affiliated club network and an army of volunteers offering coaching opportunities. there are fewer players taking part in regular organised badminton in Cornwall, and some clubs are finding it hard to fulfill East and West Cornwall League commitments with the number of female club members a particular concern.
