STUDENTS from BOP (Bude, Okehampton and Plymouth) T.A.G.B Tae Kwon-Do schools joined with Launceston, Tavistock and Helston to grade in front of Grand Master Dew, 9th Dan, on Saturday, May 19.

Nine were awarded A pass marks, three were awarded plus pass marks, with their efforts and standards being deemed above average. All students were successful in gaining promotion to the next belt level.

The grading award for best student at Bude went to Raillie Graham, who was undertaking her first ever grading.

To make a complete weekend of it, mothers and daughters teamed up to take on the Welsh Championships on Sunday, May 20, in Cardiff.

Rachel Stratton with daughters Martha and Millie entered patterns divisions.

Martha Stratton put in a particularly strong performance, missing out on a medal position by 0.2 of a mark while Evelyne Sirmon and Millie Stratton were jointly 0.3 short of bronze, so the girls placed 5th and joint 6th in a category of 31 junior green belts.

However there was no stopping Sirmon’s mother Heather as she picked up a silver for her pattern, bronze for individual sparring and a silver for team sparring!

Joanna Giannakidou brought her mother as a spectator for her first competition and made the experience memorable by winning silver for her individual sparring, and gold in the team event.

All of them are planning to take part in the World Championships, to be held in Birmingham later this year.
