WERRINGTON Cricket Club welcomed Year 3 and 4 children from Werrington, North Petherwin, St-Giles-on-the-Heath, St Stephens and Egloskerry primary schools and Windmill Academy for this year's Diamond Cricket Festival. It was hoped the sun would shine on National Cricket Day, and participants and organisers were not disappointed. Some 135 children, along with teachers, volunteers and parents, thoroughly enjoyed 19 competitive matches. For the past three years, the schools have enjoyed the benefits of funded curriculum cricket through the Chance to Shine programme; the legacy of this being that the schools are now self-funding the summer term curriculum, lunch-time and after school clubs.
