SHARP’S Brewery has ensured that gig rowers from Rock Rowing Club have fresh racing oars for the 2017 race season, thanks to ongoing sponsorship.

The club, which has over 60 members, rows from Rock in the Camel Estuary, the home of Sharp’s Brewery, and has two traditional wooden Cornish Pilot Gigs, two training gigs, a skiff and three flash boats.

The club can now add a set of six brand new race oars for the Men’s A team to its equipment list.

The oars were presented to the club by Sharp’s general manager Dave Haskell and brands co-ordinator Ali Burgess.

Chairman of Rock Rowing Club, Geoff Davies said: “Sharp’s Brewery is our number one sponsor and it has very generously bought a set of racing oars for the men’s A-Team. The first time they will be used with aggression is in the Isles of Scilly at the World Championships this year.”

Geoff continued: “Sharp’s Brewery has been our sponsor, virtually since we opened, it is our longest and biggest sponsor, together with Nathan Outlaw and The Mariners. We have a really great relationship with the brand.”

The racing oars will be a welcome addition to the club, as due to the wild conditions on Cornwall’s doorstep and the heaving Atlantic swells, equipment wears out fast and needs replacing. The oars will be kept in pristine condition until the major gig rowing events of 2017.
