THE opening of the centenary celebrations at Dunheved Bowling Club took place in glorious sunshine, with around 60 members and guests seeing special visitor and former BBC bowls commentator David Rhys Jones bowl the first wood of the season. Mayor of Launceston Cllr Dave Gordon bowled the second — a toucher — ahead of the club releasing 100 red and white balloons. A spider competition and one and a half hours of bowling followed, to the delight of all taking part. A fantastic tea was held afterwards, with speeches from some guests. They were well received especially by Mr Rhys Jones, who spoke about his early days bowling with former partner, the great David Bryant, and some highlights from his career as a commentator.
