HOLSWORTHY Youth Football Club are celebrating their best finish to a season since their inception in 1989.

Three of their teams recently featured in North Devon Finals with two of them coming out victorious.

The U15s, under the management of Lee Thomas and Rob Moores, overcame Braunton Wanderers 2-1 in their cup final on home turf at Upcott Field. They also reached the semi-final of the Devon Cup encountering a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of St Martins.

The U14s, overseen by Jason Jones and Scott Hayler, ran out 3-1 winners against Braunton at Tews Lane in their cup final.

The U16s, managed by Theo Shell, fought a keenly contested battle against SAS in the Plate Final at Tews Lane and with the scores at 0-0 after extra time were extremely unlucky to lose 4-3 on penalties.

All three man of the match awards, picked by appointed referees, went to Holsworthy players Mark Wilson (U14s), Jon Skinner (U15s) and Rob Jones (U16s).

Holsworthy Youth Football chairman Adam Chidley said: “As this season ends it is with great sadness that we are losing our long standing secretary, Esther Rowe, who has been the hub of Holsworthy Youth Football for the past four seasons.

“Also, the club treasurer, Ruth Macdonald is standing down after five years, so on behalf of all players, parents, coaches and committee members we would like to thank them both for all their hard work and for leaving the club in such good shape for the future.”

The North Devon Magpies are always looking to recruit new players of any age, especially at U14 and U15 level. The club will also be hosting free taster sessions for 7-8 year olds ahead of next season.
