LAUNCESTON completed their pre-season campaign last week ahead of Friday night’s Kit Kitchen South West Peninsula League Premier West opener at home to Sticker (7.30pm) with two convincing away wins.

On Thursday, Gary Jeffery took his squad to face Plymouth Marjon on their 3G surface. Young Charley Skilton put the Clarets in front after 20 minutes, turning home an accurate Travis Skerton cross, but the home side, who play in SWPL Premier East, squared things up before the break.

Launceston stepped up the pace in the second-half and made their superiority tell with three more goals.

Former Bere Alston man Ryan Moorhead made it 2-1 on the hour before Billy Hopcroft extended the lead with the goal of the game. When Jack Lee was brought down in injury-time, Tom Ellacott blasted home the resultant penalty to wrap up a convincing win after a good test against a useful Marjon side.

Two days later the Clarets made the short trip to Broadclose Park to face Bude Town, about to begin their season in the new St Piran League East.

On a sweltering afternoon, Launceston started much the stronger and were soon two goals in front, through an own goal and a Harry Hopcroft effort against his old club.

The goals kept coming and Dan Hart helped himself to a first-half hat-trick, along with a fine effort from Mark Elvidge. Bude kept fighting and scored a couple of first-half goals to make the half-time score 6-2 to the Clarets.

Things were quieter after the break as manager Jeffery was able to give valuable game time to some of his younger squad members. The final score was 7-3 with Elvidge adding a second after the restart.

Holsworthy finished off their preparations for their first ever South West Peninsula League Premier East clash at home to Newton Abbot Spurs on Saturday (3pm), by travelling to Southern League outfit Barnstaple Town on Friday night.

Adam Smith and Brad Birch scored the Magpies’ goals.

Adam Sleep and Jack Lawrence were both on target twice for Camelford last week. On Tuesday night they beat Bude Town 4-1 at Trefrew Park with Charlie Hambly, Lawrence and Sleep all on target.

Sleep also scored on Thursday night as they lost 2-1 at home to SWPL Premier East side Millbrook.
