SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE PREMIER WEST (SATURDAY)

Penzance 1 Bude Town 0

THE Seasiders’ longest trip of the season ended in defeat as in-form Penzance secured a 1-0 success at Penlee Park.

Bude headed to West Cornwall off the back of a 1-0 success at Sticker last time out, and match-winner Aaron Hart was rewarded with a start. Harry Hopcroft also came back into the side at centre-half in place of unavailable left-back Finn Reeve as skipper Ewan Reeves switched to left-back.

After an even start the game was decided on 23 minutes. A coming together involving goalkeeper Ty Rowe in the box ended in a spot-kick being awarded despite the linesman waving for a corner. Charlie Young made no mistake from 12 yards.

Despite the home side being the better team in the first half, mid-table Bude nearly levelled five minutes before the break when Tornado Bello picked the ball up on the edge of the box, shimmied around a couple defenders and hit a right-footed shot towards the left corner which was excellently saved by Mikey Flores.

The visitors had better spells of possession after the break, but Penzance were dangerous and had another couple of opportunities to increase their lead. However, bodies were put on the line and Rowe was having a great game in the Bude goal.

Another chance arose as Bello again picked up the ball from the angle, but his fierce drive flew over the bar.

Late on the visitors threw men forward in the search of the equaliser, but it wasn’t to be and Penzance were good value for their win.
