CALLINGTON Town have moved quickly to announce new management for their first and second teams.

Town have announced that club stalwarts Sam Borthwick and Lee Mann will be stepping up to manage the first team in the newly-formed South West Peninsula League Premier Division West.

Borthwick has been at the club for many years as a goalkeeper as has Mann who steps up from his role in charge of the second team.

They replace Adam Chidzoy who has decided to stand down due to ongoing work commitments. With Chidzoy working in London, he has found it impossible to get back for training or midweek games and he eventually had to make the difficult decision to stand down from the role.

New club chairman Stephen Blatchford said: “The club would like to sincerely thank Adam for all his hard work since he took over last year and whilst we are saddened to see him make this decision we fully understand the situation he is in.

“Looking forward, we are also pleased that Sam and Lee have stepped up to take control. Both players have been associated with the club for many years and we look forward to working with them in the coming season.”

The seconds will play in the East Division of the St Piran League, playing against teams from last year’s East Cornwall divisions as well as the likes of Bude Town, St Mawgan and Sticker Reserves.

With Mann stepping up to work alongside Borthwick, Callington have appointed 25-year-old Dan Fawke as their new manager.

Fawke joins the club with his assistant Liam Wright and will work alongside Borthwick and Mann.

Despite his young age, Fawke has had years of experience with coaching around East Cornwall.

Blatchford added: “We are delighted to welcome Dan to the club and look forward to a long and successful relationship with us.”

The second team begin their league season with two away games. On Saturday, August 17 they make the trip to Wadebridge Town Reserves before travelling to their Torpoint Athletic counterparts on Tuesday, August 20.  Their first home game is against Launceston Reserves at Ginsters Marsh on Saturday, August 24.

As well as the two senior men’s teams, the veterans will compete in the Cornwall League while there is a second ladies team to go alongside the first team will begin a second season in the South West Women’s Football League.
