DANNY Moore scored a brace and later missed a penalty as Altarnun beat local rivals North Hill 4-1 to advance into the second-round of the KMD Developments Duchy League Knockout Cup.

The tie was switched to Altarnun’s pitch after two previous attempts to play the game at North Hill were unsuccessful due to the weather.

The home side started off well and took the lead after just four minutes as Danny Moore’s powerful free-kick from outside the box took a slight deflection off the North Hill wall to leave goalkeeper Gareth Smith stranded.

The game was being played in a friendly way despite some tasty tackles. However, Altarnun kept pushing and it was not long before they were awarded a penalty, which Moore buried into the bottom left-hand corner.

At 2-0 down, the visitors sparked into life, forcing Tom Coles into a couple of excellent saves.

This continued early into the second-half and it wasn’t long before it 2-1 as James Bloomfield curled the ball into the top corner from 15-yards.

From the restart, Altarnun started to to get back in control and were awarded a penalty after James Bloomfield was adjudged to have pushed Sam Wade inside the box.

To rub salt into the wound, Bloomfield was given a second yellow-card for the foul.

However, Moore could only hit the post and the game was, temporarily at least, still in the balance.

Not long afterwards, Jared Burns did make it 3-1 when he smashed in Stuart Cole’s corner.

After the restart, Altarnun kept on pressing and went further ahead when Lewis Halliday beat the onrushing Smith to head home Cole’s right-wing cross.

This seemed to deflate North Hill and Altarnun were playing within themselves and the game finished 4-1.
