Newquay 1

NEWQUAY AFC earnt back-to-back League wins for the first time this season, beating Camelford 1-0 in what was a typical match up between two teams at the wrong end of the table.

Jordan Annear and Luke Weldhen were lively in attack for the home side who had Jed McArdie and Tom Annear to thank for some stout defending.

A physical but fair first-half came to life when visiting skipper Dan Balsdon headed against his own crossbar after the goalkeeper flapped at a corner. Camelford’s Dan Metherall received a second yellow card, six minutes into the second period, giving Newquay a crucial man advantage.

The Peppermints punished the ten men four minutes later as a fantastic freekick from Jack Bray-Evans was met by Jack Piper who headed home at the far post.

Torpoint Athletic 0

LAUNCESTON ended their recent run of draws with a gritty 1-0 win in a tight game at Torpoint Athletic.

The only goal arrived on 17 minutes, when a delicious corner was met by the head of Sam Davey and it was thoroughly deserved for the Clarets’ forward, who was a menace all afternoon at the Mill.

Torpoint had chances to grab an equaliser, winning numerous corners that were bravely defended by the visiting defence, although the hosts were grateful to Ben Hardie for an excellent save in denying Davey his second of the afternoon.

Launceston had to soak up periods of pressure in the second half and the closest Torpoint came to finding an equaliser was a freekick from Lewis Young that was well blocked by the visiting custodian.

Wendron United 5

Holsworthy 2

WENDRON United picked up their first League win since Boxing Day, comprehensively beating Holsworthy 5-2.

The home side played with a good tempo that has been missing in recent weeks. Michael O’Neil bagged the opener with a toe-punt from 18 yards.

Wendron extended their lead shortly before the break when young centre-half Phil Crawley scored his first goal for the club’s first team. Chris Madeley tapped in at the back post to make it 3-0 before Jack Stocker scored his third in as many games to put Wendron out of sight.

Ricky Cobbledick pulled one back for Holsworthy before his own goal took Wendron to five. Cobbledick added a late second for the visitors who have now lost three on the bounce, conceding 11 goals in the process.
