BUDE Town boss Steve Hackett says ‘the standards need to be maintained’ as the Seasiders prepare for their Good Friday clash at neighbours Holsworthy (11am) in South West Peninsula League Premier West.

Victory would move the Cornishmen level with the Magpies before their Easter Monday trip to St Day, while the Boxing Day clash between the duo was a forgettable affair, only brought to life late on by Dylan Morgan’s 25-yard stunner which gave Bude a 1-0 victory.

Hackett told the Post: “We are anticipating another tight contest between the two sides if the last two seasons are anything to go by.

“Holsworthy are always a physical, organised team who look to hurt you from set-pieces and direct balls, so we have to be cautious and organised.

“That said, we have a strong squad available without any noticeable absentees and will be looking to take the game to our opponents. If we play the football we are capable of, we are more than a match for anyone in this division.

“The pitch on Boxing Day was heavy after some poor weather, so it was hard to play any kind of quality football and the match lacked clear cut chances. Let’s hope that Holsworthy’s pitch is firm and the lads can enjoy the occasion.”

Bude are on course for their best finish in years, and Hackett wants the momentum to continue, adding: “Our goal is to get as many points as we can in. We want to finish as high as we can in the table and not go through the motions, so the standards need to be maintained.

“There will be opportunities for a couple lads from our reserves and also lads who have been patient on the bench to get some minutes, but we want one big final push before the players can have a few weeks off.”
