CAMELFORD put in another excellent display but their inability to keep things tight at the back cost them once more against their high-flying opponents at Trefrew Park.
After a good start to the game, the Ashes took the lead through defender Callum Martindale’s excellent effort.
However, the Camels are gradually getting key players back to fitness and drew level when top-scorer Adam Sleep finished off some good work by Mark Gusterson.
Saltash have reached both the Cornwall Senior Cup and League Cup final and showed why as goals from prolific strike duo Ryan Richards and Sam Hughes gave them a 3-1 lead at the interval.
Sleep was denied a brace early in the second-half by a brilliant Ryan Rickard save before Hughes grabbed his second to give the visitors the points.
Camelford did manage a late consolation through Gusterson’s header from a brilliant Charlie Hambly free-kick, but that was as good as it got.
Camelford have another tough test this weekend as they welcome title-chasing Tavistock (3pm).

Callington Town 1
TWO sides with just pride to play for played out an excellent contest at Erme Valley with the home side emerging victorious.
Callington hadn’t won in six games and trailed 1-0 at the break thanks to an effort from Jake Anderson.
After Kelvin Fyneboy doubled the Ivies lead from the penalty spot on 53 minutes, Sam Marker gave the visitors hope five minutes later with a well-taken finish.
However, the 13th-placed home side sealed the points with a couple of minutes remaining through Jake Lane.
Launceston 3
Falmouth Town 4
THE Clarets were left wishing they had five more minutes after narrowly coming out on the wrong end of a remarkable seven-goal affair against Falmouth Town at Pennygillam on Saturday.
The Clarets were without skipper Lee Rundle and dangerous wide man Jack Alexander, but were able to field a stronger side than in recent weeks.
Nevertheless the visitors opened the scoring in the 12th minute when player/manager Andrew Westgarth tapped home from close range.
Launceston came close to equalising on the half-hour but Jordan Walton’s fierce shot was scrambled away by visiting keeper Ryan Barnes.
Falmouth doubled their lead after 62 minutes when Luke Johnson finished neatly past Josh Colwill.
Matt Buchan rammed in a left-wing cross to make it 3-0 and when the same man reacted fastest to notch a fourth with less than ten minutes remaining, the game seemed up for Launceston.
But in an extraordinary finish to the game, the Clarets scored three times in eight minutes. Paul Chuwen, in his first game back at the club, reduced the arrears from close range and then crashed home a 15-yard drive to make it 4-2 as the game entered injury-time.
Suddenly Falmouth were on the ropes and the Clarets swarmed forward. They forced a left-wing corner, taken by Tallan Mitchell which was cleverly headed home by substitute Sam Hepworth.
Time ran out for Launceston but they had given Falmouth a real scare in a breathless encounter.
The Clarets visited Plymouth Argyle Reserves on Tuesday night and are on the road once more at Cullompton Rangers on Saturday.

LEE Gardiner’s brilliant first-half strike at Gala Parc gave the Magpies four points from clashes with the Fishermen.
When the two sides met in North Devon seven days earlier, the sides couldn’t be separated in a scrappy 1-1 draw.
Both sides continued to match up well in a stop-start affair with both sides guilty of lots of errors in possession.
However both teams had the odd chance with visiting goalkeeper Ryan Chadwick doing well to block a one-on-one on 20 minutes before centre-back Gardiner stopped a definite goal with a tackle on the line after Chadwick’s clearance was blocked by Max Everard and squared for a tap-in and Gardiner came from nowhere to tackle Matt Fox on the line.
At the other end, a flowing move saw Brad Birch force Steve Parker-Billinge into a full-stretch save while young striker Olti Arriku saw a fierce effort go just wide.
However on the half-hour, Gardiner produces a moment of brilliance. Chadwick’s free-kick was driven into the Porthleven box where James Dart headed back across goal, and with his back to goal ten yards out, Gardiner chested the ball up, turned and volleyed left-footed into the top corner.
In the second-half Porthleven had lots of the ball but hardly created a chance besides a good save from Chadwick and skipper Carlo Chandler blocking a goalbound effort.
Holsworthy attacked well with Kieran Langman going close, as did Birch, Arriku and Taren Stacey.
Sixteen-year-old Toby Martyn came on and caused Porthleven’s back four problems and had a shot well blocked late on, as the Magpies ensured that the Port’s title bid suffered yet another setback.
Holsworthy manager Liam Dart said: “It wasn’t the best football we have played but it was a terrific battling, workmanlike performance from our young team.
“As a team every player gave everything and you could see that after the game they all deserve immense credit for their application and performances.”
