SOUTHGATE put in a terrific performance, probably their best of the season to see off a good Elm outfit.

There was total commitment from all 14 players right from the start with Will Johnson pulling strings in midfield, Sam Gurr adding some much needed bite, having his best game since joining the club, and it was great to see Simon Reardon being back to form of old.

The Colts took the lead after some great build up play saw the effervescent Charlie Paul create a chance for Johnson to score with a first time strike from just outside the box.

Elm equalised against the run of play as Southgates’ neat play carved out several more chances but they could not find the back of the net. With Harvey Jones and Nick Adams rock solid at the back and Alex Sandercock and Gurr driving the midfield on, the Colts were not to be denied.

With 15 minutes to play, substitute Josh Mayne was brought down in the box and captain Jared Burns kept his cool to slot home a much deserved winner from the spot.
