St Piran League East round-up — Saturday, September 21
AIDAN Davis’ deflected injury-time free-kick gave Morwenstow their fourth win of the season as they came from behind to beat Millbrook Reserves at the Playing Field.
Millbrook broke the deadlock just before half-time, after some clever hold up play allowed the ball to be flicked through to the advancing Zak Pearce, who cooly finished into the bottom corner.
Once again, the North Cornwall side showed their grit and soon after the restart, a quick short corner saw Matt Carter lash a left-footed shot across the face of goal, deflecting into the top corner.
Morwenstow’s Gavin Carter was fouled on the edge of 18-yard-box, deep into injury time. Up stepped Davis who struck the ball low under the wall, only to catch a devilish deflection on the way through, taking it well away from the stranded keeper and into the net, sparking wild celebrations from the home side as the final whistle blew.
Elsewhere, Bude Town fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Torpoint Athletic Reserves. Scott Percy continued his superb form with the Seasiders’ goal but Town dropped to eighth.
Launceston Reserves fell to second success loss, this time by five goals to two at their Liskeard counterparts with Scott Sanders and Gareth Jones on target for the Clarets.
Callington Town Reserves lost 9-0 at home to high-flying St Mawgan.
