Cornwall Airport Newquay Duchy League round-up by Mike Newcombe
PREMIER outfit St Breward are out of this year’s Duchy Knockout Cup after suffering a third successive defeat in Group C.
They were beaten 3-1 at home by Foxhole reserves to end their hopes, with their goal coming from an own goal.
Division One Lifton has qualified for the knockout stages from Group G after a fine 3-1 win at Premier side Tintagel. George Murrain scored a brace, one a penalty with new signing Calum Moore getting the other Lifton goal from the substitutes bench. Martyn Cockcroft replied for Tintagel.
St Columb Major open up a three-point gap at the top of Group H in the Shoe Boy League Cup after their 3-2 win at Bude Town Thirds. Dom Roberts hit a brace with Scott Taylor completing the visitors tally. Ben Furber scored both Bude goals.
Lifton Reserves have failed to progress from Group F although starting the campaign as the highest ranked side in the group. In their final match they were held to a 5-5 draw at home to St Mawgan Reserves with the visitors now needing a win over North Petherwin Reserves in the final match to secure a home draw in the knockout stages. Liam Rich hit a hat-trick for Lifton with Chris Alford grabbing a brace. for the hosts.
There was also league action. In the Premier Division, St Newlyn East won a tight game with Boscastle 2-0. It was goalless going into the break and this continued until the last ten minutes of the game. With the clock showing 82 minutes, an unfortunate Boscastle defender scored an own goal, with Ross London getting the hosts’ second two minutes later when he turned and hit a 25-yard screamer. Tempers flared in the closing minutes with a player from each team dismissed.
These are difficult times for Stoke Climsland as they could only muster ten players for their home game with Lostwithiel and slumped to a 7-1 defeat. Liam Rooney and Jordan Cummings both hit a treble with Tom Mileham completing the Lostwithiel scoring. Jamie Ruse scored the home consolation goal.
Southgate Seniors go level at the top of Division Two after beating Calstock 6-4. Craig Charnock scored twice with the other home goals shared by Josh Barron, Liam Cairns, Wayne Francome and Anthony Coles. Ashley Small replied with a hat-trick for Calstock with Finn Phillips getting their other goal.
Matt Hawke scored four goals as St Eval Spitfires thrashed North Hill 7-0. The other goals were scored by Steve Masters, Jon Summerfield and Shane Wade.
