Premier Division
Cullompton Rangers 2
Callington Town 0
THE visitors were left thankful for the heroics of goalkeeper Sam Borthwick as he single-handely kept the home side at bay in East Devon.
Callington are a tough nut to crack despite being fourth from bottom but fell behind on 15 minutes when Rhys Parsons fired home.
Parsons was again the beneficiary of good work from Jordan Charran to add the second after Charran’s shot was saved.
The second-half was more of the same with the home side creating most of the chances but being denied by the Callington custodian.
Callington are back in action on Saturday when they entertain fellow strugglers Godolphin Atlantic (3pm). A win will see them move above their Newquay-based opponents.
Tavistock 4
A CLARETS squad, bereft by injuries, suspension and unavailability competed well but in the end fell to a comprehensive defeat at Langsford Park.
Mike Walton handed a debut to full-back Patrick Riddell, thrown in at the deep end against a Lambs attack which included ex-Pennygillam favourite Sam Davey.
Launceston started brightly and fashioned the first opening but Tallan Mitchell’s accurate drive was touched wide by Josh Oak.
However the home team soon began to dominate with Clarets keeper Josh Colwill, excellent throughout, coming under intense pressure.
Colwill saved superbly from Luke Brown but was left helpless when Josh Grant nodded the Lambs into an 18th minute lead.
Launceston passed the ball well through midfield but were unable to retain possession long enough to threaten the Tavistock goal.
Colwill was beaten again by Grant but this time Charlie Hardcastle was on hand to clear his shot off the line.
The Clarets made it through to half-time trailing by just that single goal, although pressure was mounting.
It took Tavistock until the 65th minute to score the decisive second, by which time the home team had become sufficiently concerned to introduce the cavalry from the bench.
Jack Crago, Dave Hallett and ex-Claret Liam Prynn were all introduced and it was Crago who made the points safe with a superb finish at the back-post.
Launceston fought bravely to delay the inevitable until injury-time when the Lambs added two more goals. First Grant scored from the penalty spot before Crago rubbed salt in Claret wounds by beating Colwill with a near-post drive.
Torpoint Athletic are the next visitors to Pennygillam, this Saturday (2.15pm).
Division One (West)
Porthleven 6
Bude Town 0
DESPITE holding out until the 36th minute, ten-man Bude Town proved no match for the league leaders at Gala Parc.
Although the visitors frustrated ‘the Port’, Porthleven eventually took the lead through Josh Sims before he added a second before the break.
With the visitors tiring, Chris Wormington added a third on 61 minutes before Hayden Dark notched the fourth soon after.
Rob Carey and George Molcher added further strikes before the end as the Seasiders turn their attention to Saturday’s visit of sixth-placed Mousehole, who are managed by former Torquay United boss Kevin Nicholson, to Broadclose Park (2.15pm).
