South West Peninsula Premier
Launceston 2
Stoke Gabriel 1
AFTER finishing 2015 with only four points from a possible 18, Launceston began 2016 by taking all three with a 2-1 win over Stoke Gabriel.
Both teams were affected by the wet pitch and the wind. Stoke, however, edged the first half with a gusts at their backs.
Although, it was the home side who took the lead when, five minutes after the break, Joe Jasper broke down the left, broke inside and shot past the goalkeeper.
Five minutes later, Stoke equalised from a corner with Ryan O’Callaghan nodding home. With a draw seemingly on the cards, new Launceston signing Danny Zalick controlled the ball well and put through Sam Davey to score the winner with 16 minutes to go.
St Austell 6
Camelford 0
ST AUSTELL came out comfortable 6-0 winners against Camelford in horrific conditions at Poltair Park.
Liam Eddy shot the hosts into an early lead with two goals inside the opening ten minutes getting them off to the best possible start.
St Austell had several chances to extend their lead but had to wait until just before the break to add to their tally when Eddy completed his hat-trick.
With the heavy downpours worsening in the second half, Harry Evans and Liam Prynn further extended the hosts’ lead; and it was left to substitute Josh Grant to seal the round with the sixth and final goal.
Before the game a minute’s silence was observed for former Lilywhites player and manager Mike Howard and former Cornwall FA stalwart Dennis Champion.
