ONE of the biggest games in Camelford’s recent history takes place tomorrow at Trefrew Park as they welcome Western League Premier Division outfit Buckland Athletic in the first-round of the Buildbase FA Vase (3pm).
The Camels are riding high at the moment, currently sixth in South West Peninsula League Premier West following five straight wins.
Reg Hambly’s side pulled off a remarkable comeback on Wednesday night as they scored five times in 25 minutes to defeat local rivals Bodmin Town 6-4 at Priory Park, so go into the game with confidence.
South Devon-based Buckland are currently in lower mid-table in the league above, with three wins and five defeats from their eight league outings, but crucially do have games in-hand.
Buckland and the Camels last met in the 2011/12 South West Peninsula League Premier Division campaign when the Bucks finished as runners-up and moved up to the Western League.
At Step Five they have continued to excel. In 2014/15 they finished as runners-up and came ninth last term.
Since then first team manager Richard Pears has left the club with director of football, Adam Castle, taking over the reigns. Such is the Homers Heath club’s interest in the tie, two coach loads will travel down to North Cornwall.
Camelford’s neighbours Launceston are back in league action tomorrow when they travel to fellow strugglers Godolphin Atlantic (Newquay) (3pm).
Godolphin have suffered with player availability issues all season and are currently 18th with just eight points from 14 games.
However, a win over the Clarets will see them leapfrog their opponents who themselves have just ten points from 12 games.
Across the border in Devon, Holsworthy will look to bounce back from their 3-1 defeat at Crediton United on Monday night, when they welcome Dartmouth AFC to Upcott Field (3pm).
The visitors have impressed so far this season and make the long trip to Torridge in seventh.
Holsworthy on the other hand have found the step up much more difficult, and are 16th out of 20 teams, four points above the drop zone.
Holsworthy Reserves are among a handful of Post area sides in second-round action in the Devon cup competitions tomorrow.
The Magpies have won all five of their North Devon League Senior Division fixtures to sit top, but head to South Devon Division One high-flyers Harbertonford in what should be a close contest.
Their league rivals Shebbear United and Bridgerule are also in action.
Shebbear have a home date with Devon and Exeter League Division Two side Heavitree United Reserves at South Close while Bridgerule, without a game in over a fortnight, head to Tavistock to tackle DC Auto Repairs, who are currently fourth in Division One of the SWAZ Teamwear Plymouth and West Devon League.
Halwill, second in Division Two of the Macron Devon and Exeter League, have a home date with Devon and Exeter Division One side, Winchester.
Bradworthy are the only Post area club competing in the Devon Premier Cup. The North Devon Premier outfit have a tough task at home to Tavistock Association, who are fourth in the South West division of the Devon League.
In the Devon Intermediate Cup, there are three Post area sides looking to reach the last 32 as Ashwater host Hartland Clovelly Reserves, Shebbear United Reserves travel to their Culm United counterparts and Duchy One side Lifton welcome Exeter-based Royal Oak who play in Division Five of the Macron Devon and Exeter League.
Although the cup competitions have decimated the North Devon and Exeter and Devon league programmes, there are still three games.
In North Devon Intermediate Two, there’s a derby as Bridgerule Reserves welcome Morwenstow Reserves. In the league below, Bradworthy Reserves head to Braunton fifths.
Sxith-placed Halwill Reserves will move up to second in Division Three of the Exeter and Devon League if they can win at second-bottom Pinhoe.
Bude Town and Morwenstow will hope to bounce back from disappointing Cornwall Senior Cup defeats when they resume their St Piran League East campaigns tomorrow.
Bude, eighth in the table will know that a win at home to second-placed Polperro coupled with a draw or a loss by Morwenstow when Lanreath visit, will see them leapfrog their neighbours.
Launceston Reserves have enjoyed a superb campaign so far with 19 points from ten games to sit fourth, but aren’t in action, while fourth-bottom Callington Town Reserves have a home date with their Millbrook counterparts at Ginsters Marsh.
There’s a crucial game for St Teath tomorrow when Plymouth Marjon Reserves visit North Cornwall for a East Cornwall Premier League fixture.
The village side have just three points from their opening six fixtures but Marjon themselves are only two points better off and have played twice more.
Along with bottom side Looe Town, North Petherwin have played the least number of games so far (five) but have started well in picking up nine points. They’ll be confident of another tomorrow when Roche visit Petherwin Park.
Second-placed St Minver, who were well beaten 4-0 at Perranporth in the Cornwall Senior Cup last Saturday have a last 16 League Cup tie to contend with, as St Blazey Reserves make the trip to Trewint Lane.
There’s a near full programme in the Cornwall Airport Newquay Duchy League tomorrow across the four divisions.
Five of the six Post area clubs are in action, including leaders Gunnislake who make the short trip to Saltash United thirds.
St Breward tasted defeat for the first time last Saturday in an 11-goal thriller at Stoke Climsland but will expect to bounce back at Holywell and Cubert who are yet to register a point.
St Breward will hope that Stoke Climsland can do them a favour when second-placed Tregrehan Mills travel north.
Elsewhere, unbeaten Altarnun host St Merryn and Boscastle go to Lostwithiel.
St Minver Reserves have only taken to the field once in Division One and will hope for their first points of the season when they travel to Polperro Reserves.
It’s derby day in Division Two with four Post area clubs facing off against their local rivals.
It’s second versus bottom at Launceston College Playing Fields as Southgate Seniors entertain struggling North Hill.
If Southgate win and Bude Town Reserves don’t do likewise at Week St Mary, then it’ll be Adam Scott’s men who’ll be top come 4.30pm.
Boscastle Reserves, without a point to their name after five games, entertain Calstock who have six points from two outings.
Bude Town Thirds, will hope to keep the pressure on leaders St Dominick Reserves when they go to unbeaten Queens Rangers tomorrow.
The Seasiders have won three and lost one of their four league games since being reformed in the summer.
Delabole drew at Queens Rangers last weekend for their first point of the season. They entertain Grampound. Elsewhere, two Post area sides meet as Gunnislake Reserves entertain their North Petherwin counterparts.
Women’s football takes centre stage on Sunday with Bude Town, Callington Town, Callington Town Reserves, St Teath and St Breward all in action.
In the South West Regional Women’s Football League Premier Division, leaders Callington Town, who lost for the first time this season at Ilminster Town last weekend, head to the outskirts of Bristol to face fourth-placed Keynsham Town Development, while in the league below (West Division) Bude Town will hope for an improved performance from their 10-2 defeat at home to Plymouth Argyle Reserves last weekend, when they head to leaders Feniton.
In the Devon Women’s Premier, Halwill head to Lakeside Athletic.
Across the border in Cornwall, Callington Town Reserves head to Falmouth-based FXU Ladies in Division One.
In the league below, St Breward Ladies have a tough task at top-of-the-table Bodmin while St Teath will hope to get their first points of the season when Charlestown visit.
Camelford and Launceston are once again in midweek action in the coming days.
On Tuesday, Launceston face Wadebridge Town at Pennygillam (7.30pm) while Camelford have a trip to Falmouth Town 24 hours later (7.30pm).
