Godolphin Atlantic 2
RYAN Pooley scored a hat-trick as Camelford made it 12 goals in their opening two games by thrashing Godolphin Atlantic 5-2 at Trefrew Park last Tuesday.
The Camels struck seven past Sticker a week earlier, and put in another five-star performance to maintain their 100% start.
The opening exchanges were tight with the G-army on top, however the Camels took the lead on 20 minutes as Pooley latched onto a ball out of defence by centre-half Charlie Hambly, worked his way past the defender and then fired the ball into the roof of the net from 15 yards.
It was 2-0 before the half-hour mark as a strong run from skipper Adam Sleep saw him upended in the box.
Ed Harrison kept his cool to double the advantage.
The rest of the half passed off without much incident as the home side went in with their tails up.
The second-half started in a similar vein Godolphin slightly on top.
However, they found themselves 3-0 down just after the hour as Josh Penrose took a touch from Sleep’s cross from the right, and steered the ball past Ethan Fearn.
Five minutes later it was 4-0 as Pooley fired in an unstoppable free-kick into the bottom left corner from just outside the box.
The Camels made a couple of substitutions which seemed to affect their rhythm.
Godolphin continued to battle away well and scored twice in as many minutes with two of their substitutes to the fore.
Crosses from Elliott Simcox from the left were fired in from six-yards by striker Ben Colquhoun.
With ten minutes to go, any thoughts of the most dramatic of comebacks were ended in special fashion as Pooley smashed a 25-yard effort into the top left-hand corner.
The remaining minutes were played out by the Camels as they made it six points from a possible six.
Manager Reg Hambly was ecstatic with the performance but wants his defence to stay switched on.
He said: “I’m delighted, it was a great attacking performance. We were also very secure at the back apart from that five-minute spell, which has been our achilles heel lately.
“We’ve got to make sure we concentrate for the full 90 minutes and cut out the simple errors.”
However, he was full of praise for Pooley, who has returned to the club full time this season after four seasons of predominantly playing for St Minver.
Hambly said: “It’s great to have him back as he’s a quality footballer. He played about six seasons for us from the age of 16 to 22 when we won the league (Division One West).
“He’s still only 26, so he should be coming into his peak and we’re delighted to have him on board.”
