FA VASE FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND (SATURDAY)
Camelford 1 Radstock Town 2
CAMELFORD were made to pay for a slow start as they were knocked out of this year’s Vase by Somerset outfit Radstock Town.
The Camels had won three of their opening four games in South West Peninsula League Premier West, but a much-changed side found themselves 2-0 down inside half an hour.
Camelford improved before the break and Ryan Downing slotted home a penalty that he won himself, but the Western League Division One strugglers held on during a lively second half to make the long trip home a buoyant one.
Camelford had player/coach Josh Colwill in charge for the afternoon and they gave first starts of the season for Josh Harris, Bailee Deignan and Jacob Turner.
Camelford started slowly and were behind in the 17th minute as Harry Grimsey’s strike from range hit the crossbar and went in off Colwill.
The hosts were far from their fluent best and went 2-0 down on 28 minutes when Grimsey powered in a drive from 18 yards.
Downing’s slaloming run ended with him being taken down for a spot-kick he converted on 43 minutes as Camelford gave themselves a chance.
Beare was brought on for Jacob Turner in midfield, and with the heartbeat back in the side, they improved markedly which is also what happened once veteran midfielder Andy Boxall and the lively winger Shae Cardiff were introduced either side of the hour.
But try as they might, visiting keeper Tom Couch was in inspired mood as Radstock went through, helped by a last-gasp clearance off the line from a disbelieving Downing.

Camels’ man-of-the-match: Ross Beare.
Crediton United 5 Bude Town 3
THE Seasiders were made to pay for a poor opening 45 minutes as they exited the Vase in mid-Devon.
Bude actually started well and took the lead inside six minutes through wing-back Finn Reeve’s free-kick.
The away side were looking comfortable but were undone on 18 minutes as after Harry Hopcroft tried to play the ball out of defence, he was caught and Lukie White made no mistake.
That started a disastrous spell as Will Collins got the first of his three goals two minutes later.
Collins made it 3-1 on 34 minutes before White added his second on 38 minutes to give Bude a mountain to climb.
Steve Hackett changed back to their usual 4-3-3 at the break and got a response as on 49 minutes as Harrison Swatton breezed through the home defence before making no mistake.
But it was all but game over on 55 minutes when Collins completed his hat-trick.
Bude still came forward and saw a Swatton penalty saved, but they did muster a consolation on 82 minutes through Jack Biddick.
Hopcroft thrice went close with free-kicks, but Bude were undone by their first half showing as Crediton set up a home tie with Street.
