Carlsberg South West Peninsula League
Division One (West)
Bude Town 2
Dobwalls 3
AN EAGERLY anticipated opening day fixture at Broadclose Park saw an entertaining affair which saw the visitors snatch a 3-2 victory.
The game started positively for the Seasiders, who saw the their talisman Billy Hopcroft latch on to an excellent through ball from brother Harry and finish smartly to put Bude ahead.
That lead lasted until the 44th minute when a poor clearance from Bude was curled into the top corner by midfielder Dan Perryman.
Bude were fast asleep and conceded a minute later as Perryman was left unmarked to head home and turn the game on its head.
Bude pushed on in the second-half in search of an equaliser and it came in the 75th minute.
New signing Nathan Bonney was upended in the box, much to the disbelief of the Dobwalls camp, and Wes Pugh calmly slotted home the spot-kick.
It then looked like Bude might go on and get the winner, but in the 89th minute as they over exerted themselves going forward, Dobwalls launched a lightning-fast counter attack which ended with Ryan McNaught sweeping the ball home from 18-yards to claim the three points.
Bude boss, Ryan Leverton, said: “It was a see-saw game which was well fought, but ultimately hinged on five minutes at the end of the first-half.”
