Elburton Villa 4
Camelford 1
CAMELFORD started their Christmas period with a 4-1 defeat at Elburton Villa despite leading at the break.
The Camels, who are struggling due to a huge injury list and unavailability issues, went in front when striker Mark Gusterson fired in from close-range from Liam Dingle’s cross.
They continued to battle away in the second-half before Ross Hamilton somehow squeezed in an effort from the side of the box despite it appearing to come off his shin.
Manager Reg Hambly was left bemoaning his luck once more as Gusterson dislocated his shoulder challenging for the ball on halfway before goalkeeper Luke Gwillam was taken off with an ankle injury after being caught trying to clear a pass-back.
With defender Harry Hambly now in goal, and the Camels down to the bare bones, the home side scored a further three times in the final 16 minutes through Nick Aplin, Nick Coxon and Jake Miller.
Sticker 0
LAUNCESTON warmed up for the annual Boxing Day derby with Callington Town by thrashing Sticker 6-0 at Burngullow Park.
Jordan Walton opened the scoring from close range in the 10th minute, having been cleverly set up by Tom Savigar.
Sticker were still right in the game at this stage and Andrew Avery missed a couple of decent headed opportunities. But a second goal was clearly coming and duly arrived in the 38th minute when George Birkbeck crossed from the right and Jordan Walton tapped home.
The Clarets led 2-0 at the interval and made the game safe early in the second half with a wonderful team goal. A slick passing movement involving Mike Burke, Savigar and Jordan Walton ended with Cameron Webb crashing home an unstoppable drive from ten yards.
Sticker had no response to a goal of that quality and Mike Walton’s men assumed total control. Webb dribbled round the keeper to make it 4-0, Savigar added an unchallenged fifth and the same man made it 6-0 in the dying minutes.

Bude Town 3
Bere Alston United 0
BUDE picked up just their second home win of the season as they dominated from start to finish at Broadclose Park.
The Seasiders went 1-0 up after eight minutes when a Billy Hopcroft penalty was saved and Tommy Statton was quickest to react.
The home side went close time and time again but couldn’t get the second their play deserved.
Bude started the second-half much like the first — keeping the ball very well and using it in the right areas!
Hopcroft put Bude 2-0 up in the 55th minute before Nathan Bonny got on the scoresheet with a well controlled finished to put the result beyond any doubt!
Bude saw the game out with minimum of fuss to complete an important win against their fellow strugglers.

Holsworthy 0
Elmore 2
THE Magpies were knocked out of the Devon Premier Cup against Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Division One (East) high-flyers Elmore at Upcott Field.
Holsworthy are in the top-half of Division One (West) and went toe-to-toe with their opponents in a fantastic contest which was decided in the final ten minutes.
There were chances aplenty and it soon became evident who ever scored first would win.
Holsworthy hit the bar and saw an effort cleared off the line from Jay Thomas while the other end, Ryan Chadwick was sharp to deny the prolific Jordan Bastin and Jamie Mudge before the break.
In the second-half, Holsworthy had two glorious chances. Ollie Kenneally saw his effort when one-on-one saved smartly and Brad Birch was inches away from connecting to Ewan Reeves’ cross which flashed through the six-yard box. Taren Stacey and Scott Percy saw shots blocked for the dominant hosts before Elmore snatched it.
With 85 minutes gone, Lee Moore powered in a header from a corner before Bastin secured their place in the quarter-finals when he finished off a counter-attack.

Camelford 0
Bodmin Town 1
CAMELFORD failed to get the better of old rivals Bodmin Town as the Yellows left Trefrew Park with all three points on Boxing Day despite finishing the game with nine men.
The first-half was an even affair with both sides cancelling each other out although the Camels were given a massive boost when Town’s star striker Glyn Hobbs was sent-off for foul and abusive language.
However Darren Gilbert’s visitors are one of the most successful sides in the league in recent times and took the lead early in the second-half when a cross to the far-post was headed home past Nick Oldaker, who was making his debut in place of the injured Luke Gwillam.
Despite taking the lead, Bodmin shot themselves in the foot once more as another player was given his marching orders for abusing the officials.
Camelford failed to break down Bodmin although Shane Looker twice went close after cutting in off the left.
Launceston 0
Callington Town 2
A READILY forgettable Boxing Day encounter at Pennygillam saw Callington deservedly record a precious away win and climb out of the bottom two.
The Clarets, who had scored six times without reply at Sticker four days earlier, failed to record a meaningful shot on target and gave visiting keeper Sam Borthwick a remarkably quiet morning.
The first-half passed without any significant action. Tom Savigar shot over from a Tallan Mitchell cross before Mitchell cleverly created a chance for himself but dragged his shot wide of the near post.
Mitchell was involved in most of Launceston’s more promising attacks but received little support. The game’s dominant figure was Callington skipper and former Claret Dan Jefferis who organised the visiting defence superbly.
The second-half opened with a marginal offside decision against Jordan Hogan, before Cameron Webb saw a shot comfortably saved by Borthwick, but gradually the visitors assumed control.
Launceston keeper Josh Colwill saved well from Kevin McCallion but it was the Callington winger who finally opened the scoring. He struck from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute, after a fast break by the visitors left the Clarets exposed at the back.
Callington sealed their victory in the 75th minute when defender Mike Lucas headed home a left-wing corner.
Division One (West)
Holsworthy 1
Bude Town 1
JOSH Allen and Brad Birch traded first-half goals as the Boxing Day derby at Upcott Field ended all square in front of a bumper crowd of 364.
Neither goalkeeper had anything to do in the opening 20 minutes in what was a midfield scrap.
Max MacDonald did put the ball in the net but was ruled out for offside while at the other end Billy Hopcroft looked to threaten in behind the Holsworthy defence.
The breakthrough came on 35 minutes. Hopcroft cut in from the right, Lee Gardiner used his strong physical stature to win the ball Hopcroft went down and referee Scott Sayer adjudged it to be a penalty. Allen stepped up a scorer the penalty going to Ryan Chadwick’s right.
From the restart, Holsworthy went down the right, Ollie Kenneally crossed for Taren Stacey to head the ball down for Birch to score from ten yards.
In the second-half, Holsworthy dominated with the Seasiders looking to release Hopcroft on the counter-attack.
The Magpies struggled to break down Bude’s deep and resolute defence as Stacey saw a tame shot easily collected, Dom Abbott’s near-post effort was saved by Gary Dinshaw and Carlo Chandler’s header from Joe Barker’s corner was headed off the line.
One of Bude’s few ventures forward saw Chadwick make a terrific save from Chris Hill’s 25-yard strike which looked destined for the top corner.
In the last few minutes, Jay Thomas was dismissed for a second booking but it didn’t effect the outcome of the game which was played in a great atmosphere.

Torpoint Athletic 2
IT’S now ten league defeats in a row for Camelford as Torpoint came from behind to win at Trefrew Park.
Athletic bossed the opening exchanges with the home side shading proceedings up until half-time but the defences remained on top.
However Camelford started the second-half well and took the lead on 55 minutes as Mike Kempthorne’s cross was headed in off the underside of the bar by captain Josh Insley.
But the home side’s confidence is fragile at the moment and it took Torpoint just four minutes to equalise as former Launceston midfielder Scott Blatchford finished off a rebound following a counter attack.
Both sides pushed for a winner but it was Torpoint who grabbed it in the cruellest of circumstances as Lewis Young’s 20-yard effort deflected off Harry Hambly and past Nick Oldaker via the inside of the post.
Launceston 1
Millbrook 5
LAUNCESTON had an early opportunity to put Boxing Day’s disappointing loss to Callington behind them when Millbrook visited Pennygillam on Saturday.
The Clarets won 5-2 at Jenkins Park in September. although the visitors had risen sharply in the league since then.
A disastrous opening saw Launceston immediately up against it. The game’s first meaningful attack saw Millbrook take the lead. Clarets keeper Josh Colwill did well to block a Curtis Damerell effort at his near post, but from the resultant corner, Jack Wood headed home from close range.
Worse was to follow in the fourth minute as Launceston’s Jordan Hogan was dismissed when a flailing arm appeared to catch Damerell. The referee had no hesitation in producing Launceston’s first red card of the season.
With a man advantage, Millbrook took control. In the 20th minute the lively Damerell cut inside and finished neatly past the helpless Colwill, while the same man was quickest to seize on a rebound and make it 3-0 on the half-hour.
The Clarets were now in full damage limitation mode and did well to keep the deficit at three until the 60th minute when Ryan Knight fired home a superb 20-yard drive.
Launceston kept battling away and substitute Charlie Hardcastle reduced the arrears in the 73rd minute, squeezing home a loose ball from 15 yards.
Ben Applegate made the final score 5-1 but the Clarets had been given a lesson by a committed, disciplined Millbrook side.
Unbeaten Division One (West) title chasers Liskeard Athletic visit Pennygillam this coming Saturday in the last 16 of the RGB Cornwall Senior Cup (2pm).
Division One (West)
Dobwalls 1
Bude Town 2
NATHAN Bonney’s 89th minute winner ensured that the Seasiders took seven points from a possible nine over the Christmas period.
Dobwalls started brightly, forcing Bude to defend for long spells.
However the visitors made the hosts pay for their failure to convert their dominance in the 20th minute as a Harry Hopcroft free-kick was delivered into the Dobwalls box and brother Billy was there to finish with a brilliant overhead kick.
Bude worked hard and dug deep to keep the score at 1-0 at half-time.
Dobwalls started the second-half the brighter and were only denied by a couple of excellent saves from Gary Dinshaw.
They did eventually equalise on the hour from the penalty spot through midfielder Ray Spear.
After the restart, Bude started stretching their back four and finding gaps, with the front three continuing to cause problems for them, and the midfield working very hard off the ball.
With time running out, Billy Hopcroft burst into the box before cutting the ball back to Bonney to fire home the winner.
Holsworthy 1
Wendron United 2
HOLSWORTHY ended 2018 by dropping more points at home as Wendron United left Upcott Field with all three points.
The Magpies were held to a 1-1 draw by struggling Bude Town on Boxing Day and dropped more points in their quest to finish in the top six.
They did however dominate much of the game and took the lead through Brad Birch’s 25-yarder in the first-half.
However Wendron, who had drawn 1-1 at Wadebridge recently, are a tough nut to crack and equalised from a corner following a mistake by goalkeeper Ryan Chadwick.
The game then turned into a scrappy contest with neither side creating much.
However Wendron won it with ten minutes to go when a cross from the right was turned into his own net by centre-back Lee Gardiner.
The Magpies will look to bounce back on Saturday when they make the relatively short trip by their standards to Bere Alston United.
