JAMES Bosley scored with just two minutes remaining as Boscastle won promotion from Duchy Two with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Tregrehan Mills.

The North Cornwall side went into the game just one point behind second-placed North Hill but had a far inferior goal difference, meaning that they had to win if they were to go back up to the second-tier of Duchy League football for the first time since the 2011/12 season.

With the rest of the league finishing a couple of weeks earlier, Boscastle knew exactly what they had to do and they flew out of the blocks quickly, forcing visiting goalkeeper Andrew Julian into some smart saves.

However, they soon found themselves a goal down as a free-kick was headed home by Bobby-Lee Johns.

Boscastle continued to pile forward and were ahead before the break as Jordan Sleep fired in after a cross from the left before Bosley grabbed his first of the afternoon.

But just as Boscastle were looking forward to going into half-time 2-1 ahead, Tregrehan Mills were level as Johns’ second of the afternoon took a wicked deflection which left stand-in goalkeeper Jamie Burnett with no chance.

Despite sitting in mid-table and with nothing seemingly to play for, Tregrehan were right up for it as both teams put in some tasty tackles, one of which left young midfielder Henry?Bright in a heap.

However, that seemed to inspire Boscastle and they retook the lead just after the hour when Danny Piper headed in a cross.

Boscastle had a great chance to effectively seal promotion when skipper Robbie Heal was pushed in the box following Sam Haddy’s corner.

However, Julian was again in top form, as he superbly clawed away Heal’s penalty.

The visitors responded once more and were given a penalty of their own as Bright was penalised.

Up stepped Brandon Chapman who gave Burnett no chance.

The game was now on a knife-edge and it needed some brilliance to decide it and it came from the boots of Sleep and Bosley.

Sleep picked up the ball in the middle of the park and played it through to Bosley who confidently tucked the ball past Julian and into the corner to spark wild celebrations in the home dugout and on the pitch.

Tregrehan looked to respond to spoil the party, but Robin Haddy’s survived six minutes of injury-time to cap a dream season which saw them win promotion and the Launceston and District Knockout Cup.

Despite the success, Haddy is already looking forward to next term and launching an assault on the Duchy Division?One title.

Haddy said: “It was a perfect way to end the season. We tried to get the game moved because of our dinner and dance the night before but the league weren’t having it. “However, we put in a superb performance against a side who played like their lives depended on it, but we deserved to win the game. Their goalkeeper was absolutely brilliant, as were my players, and we now want to go and do well next year in Duchy One.

“I doubt there’ll be much of a step up and we have an excellent squad, especially going forward, so I see no reason why we can’t do well again.

“We’ll look to attract a couple of new players but the long-term goal is to get us back into the Duchy Premier League and be successful.”
