Edgcumbe 3 Torpoint Athletic 2

Edgcumbe pulled off the shock of the day with this remarkable local derby victory over a Torpoint outfit who had beaten them 2-0 in the league six weeks earlier.

Edgcumbe set about their task with relish and quickly opened the scoring when persistence from Rikki Shepherd ended with him firing home. Six minutes later and it was 2-0 when a clearance went directly to Sean Heward who fired it back into the net.

It got even worse for Torpoint when the lively Heward fired the ball from out wide into the far corner of the net to make it a remarkable 3-0.

Edgcumbe knew that Torpoint would come at them in the second half and within minutes of the restart Liam Thornton headed home. It got even worse a few minutes later when a reckless challenge by Dave Lorimer saw him given a straight red card.

Torpoint threw everything at Edgcumbe from then on and their persistence led to Danny Medlin giving away a penalty which Brian Stacey slammed into the net.

It was then backs to the wall for Edgcumbe who somehow held out to record a remarkable victory.
