Cornwall Women’s Hardball League latest round-up
WERRINGTON rounded off their campaign with a 23-run success at Perranporth on Sunday.
The Yaws headed down the A30 looking to secure a fourth win of the season, but the omens didn’t look good when Erin Milsom single-handedly reduced the visitors to 19-3.
But a superb stand of 135 between Emma Horrell and skipper Zoe Jenkin, which was helped by the hosts sending down 56 extras, meant they recovered to post a competitive 157-4.
Horrell retired having reached 50, while Jenkin made 36 from 64 balls before being trapped lbw by the returning Milsom (4-12 off 6).
Milsom then smashed 10 fours before having to retire on 51 in the 10th over as she and Jenny Watkins (26) got the hosts nearly halfway there.
But once they were separated the Werrington bowlers fought back.
Beth Atkinson dismissed Scarlett Mould before Watkins went for 26, caught by Jenkin off Horrell.
Jenkin and Horrell then applied the squeeze and the 22nd over bowled by Lily Sharland saw her strike with her first ball which was followed by a run-out.
Wickets continued to fall and 23 were required from the final nine balls when the returning Milsom was caught off Horrell (3-13 off 4.4).
South Petherwin got a second victory with a 40-run success at bottom side Helston.
Exactly 100 runs of their 163-5 came via Emma Barnes’ 50 and the home bowlers who sent down 50 extras, while twenties from Leah Sargent (26) and Freya Payne (21no) helped.
Lizzie Johns (2-16) was the best of the home bowlers.
Johns made 23 at the top of the order before Amber Furneaux’s 31 helped.
The other game saw Grampound Road concede their clash at Wadebridge, meaning Wadebridge will finish second with 18 points in their final game at home to South Petherwin on July 20.
Those other games see winners Truro (102) go to Helston and Redruth visit Grampound Road.
