Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Division Three East round-up – Saturday, July 12
DAN Tilley struck an unbeaten 97 as bottom side Launceston gave themselves a fighting chance of survival with a two-wicket victory over fellow strugglers Boconnoc on Saturday.
That looked a tall order when the visitors knocked up an imposing 273-5 despite 2-48 from Shane Davey as Rhys Morgans (58) and Jamie Coates (74) made half centuries.
Home openers Matt Bloomfield (20) and Mark Thomas (43) laid the platform before a fourth-wicket partnership of 83 between Tilley and Gavin Wallis (51 off 31) got the hosts up to 202-3.
Nerves were jangling at 248-8, but Tilley was joined by Ryan Christophers (16no off 7) who wasted no time in winning the game.
Tintagel fell to a second defeat of the season, a six-wicket reversal at Ladock.
The visitors were flying along with Tom Parsons (67) and Ryan Pooley (51) well set, but once they were separated they slipped to just 198 all out.
Aussie Jack Minehan dismissed Jonny Ridd for nought, and although Harry Daly took 2-15 from his five overs, a second wicket partnership of 124 between Vivek Oza (44) and Simon Newland (62) ensured the hosts ran out comfortable winners.
South Petherwin missed the chance to close gap on second-placed Saltash as they were beaten by seven wickets by promotion-chasing Grampound Road Seconds.
Despite being in a decent position at 77-3 with Sam Pengelly flying along on 42, his departure saw the hosts slip to 98-6.
Paul Clements continued on for his 46 after Adrian Clements made 17, but Petherwin fell to 143 all out.
The Roadies lost two early wickets to Pengelly and Adam Creasey, but Jonathan Bustin’s 69 got the job done.
Elsewhere, Callington Thirds were 198 all-out at leaders Menheniot-Looe who knocked it off inside 21 overs for the loss of just two wickets.
