A SUBSTANTIAL grant from Sport England earlier this year has helped Bude Cricket Club have a successful 2015 season.
The firsts, captained by Matt Williams, beat Ladock in the final to win the 20/20 Clive Roseveare Cup and to top the season off the seconds gained a much deserved promotion from Cornwall League Division Six East.
The Clubs’ first team narrowly missed promotion from Division Three East; just three points separated them from second place and promotion.
Chairman Tony Greaves said of the success: “The players have worked really hard to secure promotion this year with the first team narrowly missing out. Much work has happened off the field to make the club a happy and successful one.
“The Sport England grant means that pitches can be better prepared and not lost through adverse weather. Practice facilities are better and all this has resulted in more players being attracted to the club whilst giving better playing conditions.”
The club has built its success this year through the hard work of the committee and its players and has been assisted by a grant of £9966 from the Sports England Small Grants Programme for coaching equipment, covers and sightscreens.
This has enabled the club to increase its coaching capacity and more games have been played as a result of the protection the covers have given during times of poor weather.
