Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League preview for Saturday, June 29

WITH the second half of the season getting underway on Saturday for clubs across the Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League besides the ECB Premier League outifts, teams are starting to get an idea which end of the table they’ll be at come the business end.

In the Premier, champions Werrington are 27 points off leaders Penzance in third and know they’ll need to probably go through the rest of the season unbeaten starting with Saturday’s trip to fourth-placed Truro.

At the other end of the table, Callington have a must-win game at home to bottom side Falmouth.

After the weekend, which saw Callington pick up just two points at Penzance and Falmouth win at Grampound Road, there are just three points between the clubs.

In County Division One, Werrington seconds’ win at Launceston means the battle for survival continues to stay interesting.

Werrington will be expected to pick up 20 points at home to winless St Austell seconds, meaning that if Launceston pick up less than eight points at mid-table Troon, they could be in the bottom two come Saturday night.

However, such is the closeness of the league, a convincing victory for Launceston could shoot them above a couple of teams, including their hosts.

In Division Two, mid-table clubs Luckett and Bude meet at Chapel Field with the hosts determined to do the double after their convincing win on the opening day, while strugglers St Minver need to get back to winning ways when second-placed Tideford visit.

In the fourth-tier, leaders Holsworthy aim for a perfect 12 when they host Tintagel, while Callington seconds know they must win at second-placed St Blazey if they are likely to go for promotion come September.

At the other end of the table, basement club Launceston seconds must start winning, beginning with a visit from St Austell thirds while South Petherwin host Boconnoc and Bude seconds welcome St Neot. All three games are important when it comes to who will go down.

In Division Four East, Luckett seconds have a tough trip into Devon to tackle Buckland Monachorum while promotion-chasing Werrington thirds host Lanhydrock seconds at Ladycross.

Delabole welcome Gorran seconds determined to build on their morale-boosting victory at Grampound Road on Saturday.

The two Post area clubs in Division Five East clash at Baxter Park as South Petherwin seconds travel to improving Milton Abbot.

In the bottom tier, leaders St Minver will look to bounce back from their first defeat of the season at Menheniot-Looe thirds while Werrington fourths go to Boconnoc seconds, Launceston thirds are at Tintagel seconds and Gunnislake make the trip down the A390 to St Austell fourths.
