Launceston Cricket Club Ladies 6-aside Festival Report

THE ladies’ section of Launceston Cricket Club hosted their third annual six-a-side festival, on Sunday, September 4.

Seven teams, including two from Launceston, two from Redruth, plus Grampound Road, Callington and Hatherleigh took part on a day which is becoming ever more popular.

Once the early grey skies cleared, the matches started at 10.30am with all the matches being played in great spirit throughout the day.

The games are quick fire format with the bat needing to be dominant with huge spaces on each side of the wicket.

After a long day, which saw all teams play each other once, Redruth Blues finished top of the table, to defend the title they’d won in 2014 and 2015.

There was a dramatic ‘bowl off’ between Redruth Pink and Hatherleigh, which saw the West Cornwall side emerge victorious.

Throughout the day there was plenty of other things going on.

Bacon rolls, cups of tea and coffee were all on offer as well as a cake sale and a raffle, which all proved to be a great success.

Launceston Cricket Club Ladies’ manager, Paul Bunn, said: “It was a great day and in the end Redruth were the deserved winners.

“At Launceston the ladies continue to improve all the time, and the more exposure we get, the better we will become.”

Thanks were expressed to everyone who helped towards another successful festival, which continues to see the ladies’ game grow in and around Cornwall.

Ahead of the 2017 season, Launceston Ladies are always looking for new players, with age or ability no barrier.
