Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League preview for Saturday, September 7

LAUNCESTON and Werrington seconds’ County One status will be on the line on Saturday in one of the most thrilling final day’s expected in recent memory.

With the ECB Cornwall Premier League title and relegation sewn up, as well as the County One crown, Ludgvan, Launceston, Gorran and Werrington seconds will all battle it out to avoid the drop alongside St Austell seconds.

Such is the closeness between all four clubs, six points separate them with 20 points on offer for a maximum bonus points win. Werrington — having won their last two games against Launceston and Ludgvan — are now just four points adrift — but have a tough trip to mid-table Rosudgeon.

Two of the four meet at Lawhitton as Launceston entertain Gorran with the loser set to go down if Werrington win.

Elsewhere, Ludgvan go to third-placed Redruth seconds, who themselves are aiming to leapfrog Beacon and finish as runners-up.

In the ECB Cornwall Premier, Callington, safe after a dramatic two-wicket win at Wadebridge, go to Falmouth, who were relegated as a result of that win.

Werrington, champions for four of the past seven seasons, can finish no higher than third, but need seven points from their home date with third-bottom Truro to make sure St Just don’t jump above them.

If Ludgvan avoid the drop in Division One, then three clubs will go down from Division Two East and the league below.

If they do then seven clubs can possibly still go down from the third-tier, although two Post area clubs, Luckett and Bude are already safe if it is Ludgvan.

Both sides who are sixth and seventh, are on 263 points, 21 ahead of second bottom Saltash Town, who travel to St Erme, but know that a win means they are safe regardless. However if Launceston, Gorran or Werrington go then they may need to win.

St Minver, needing to win and hope that Bude and Luckett can do them a favour against Grampound Road seconds and Roche respectively, go to relegated Ladock.

Holsworthy have led Division Three East since the opening weeks and can finally secure the title when they travel to St Austell thirds, who are in poor form at present.

St Austell’s fierce rivals St Blazey are only seven points back, meaning a win for them at Newquay seconds should secure it for them if Holsworthy slip up.

Bude seconds and Launceston seconds are both in grave danger of going down.

Basement side St Neot have to beat fourth bottom Roche, who are only three points above second bottom Launceston and two ahead of Bude.

Bonus points are going to be absolutely crucial with Launceston making the short trip to Callington and Bude to Boconnoc.

Elsewhere, Tintagel welcome third-placed South Petherwin with a convincing victory for the hosts giving them the chance of finishing in the top three at their visitors’ expense.

If Newquay win then Tintagel cannot do so.

Divisions Four, Five and Six East are now complete.
