Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Division Three East and Four East round-up - Saturday, May 3

MARTIN Hunn took 7-29 as Callington Thirds got their season off to a perfect start with an eight-wicket hammering of Launceston at Lawhitton.

The swing bowler ripped through a home batting line-up which saw seven ducks as they were dismissed in less than 17 overs.

Number seven Toby Theobald made 23 as the end came at just 64.

Tom Neville wasted no time in hanging around with 31, and although he and Charlie Coates fell in successive balls to Matt Bloomfield (2-23), Toby Beresford-Power (15no) and Ollie Bennett (14no) ensured 20 points in no time.

Two relegated sides met at South Petherwin with visiting Tintagel running out comfortable 98-run winners.

The Knights racked up 237-6 after choosing to bat with the returning Ryan Pooley crashing nine fours and four sixes in his 72-ball 93.

Tom Parsons (26), Glen Burrell (39) provided fine support, while Paul Clements was the pick of the bowlers with 2-26.

Petherwin, who have a new-look side this term, failed to get started in the chase.

Andrew Brenton made a typically aggressive 46 and there were twenties from Billy Martin (26) and Paul Clements (20), but Tom Parsons’ leg-spin ran through the tail on his way to figures of 5-13 from just 5.2 overs.

The Post area’s only team in Division Four East – Werrington Thirds – got their campaign started with a five-wicket victory over Newquay Seconds at Ladycross.

New skipper Ian Worsnip was the pick of the bowlers with 3-19 from eight overs as Newquay were restricted to 194 all-out.

The home side were in a spot of bother after Jasim Ismail (3-26) ran through the top order, but Darren Webber made an unbeaten 76 as he shared important stands with both Richard Stanbury (19) and Matt Chatfield (17no).
