BOND TIMBER CORNWALL CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION TWO EAST LATEST ROUND-UP

HOLSWORTHY moved to within eight points of second bottom St Minver after a dramatic Saturday in the third-tier.

The Trees visited Lanhydrock and after staring down the barrel at 100-0 with Amir Khan, fought back superbly to make it 121-4 which included 2-19 from Jack Greening.

But a brilliant stand of 168 between Mike Horne (58no) and Ben Attfield (100no) continued the onslaught with the latter striking eight fours and five sixes as they totalled 289-4.

The Trees were 153-5 from 30 overs when the rain set in with Brendan Harris unbeaten on 52, that after Jacob Eldridge (3-39) ran through the top order.

They left with 11 points, six more than St Minver managed in their four-wicket defeat at neighbours Wadebridge Seconds.

St Minver struggled to just 115 all out in 45 overs, nobody making more than Reece Thompson’s 30, while Ben Hawken (15 off 55) and Rob Hawken (18no off 59) were the only other players to reach double figures.

In the chase, Ross Keast and Matt Hartnett shared five wickets as the hosts slipped to 74-6, but Paul Menhenick (33no) and Alek Gill (12no) held their nerve.

An understrength Werrington Seconds had a tough afternoon at title-chasing St Blazey, losing by nine wickets.

They were dismissed for just 133 with only Dan Howgill passing 20, before the hosts knocked it off in only 15 overs with Sam Smeeth taking the only wicket to fall.

Callington Seconds beat the weather to record a ten-wicket success at bottom side St Austell Thirds.

The hosts were dismissed for 104 as after Spencer Whatley (2-29) and Martin Hunn (0-15) set the platform, Ryan Hodge (3-12) and Jim Shorten (3-6) did the rest.

The chase was over in just 64 balls as openers Nick Parker and Rich Brown made unbeaten knocks of 63 and 41 respectively.
