EDEN MOTORHOMES DIVISION TWO T20 CUP (GROUP G)
Holsworthy v Bude
HOLSWORTHY have the advantage in the race for qualification from Group G of the Eden Motorhomes Division Two T20 Cup following a five-wicket victory over Bude at Stanhope Park.
It was the Trees’ first ever venture into the competition which this year sees three teams play each other just once in the group for the right to go through to the quarter-finals.
The best runner-up of the seven three-team groups will also reach the last eight.
It was Bude who won the toss and chose to bat and got off to a good start as openers Tom Lush and Wayne Adams (10) added 39.Lush struck five boundaries in his 21 from just 14 balls before being bowled by Herschelle Poggenpoel, and from there the visitors self-destructed.
They slipped to 55-8 as Poggenpoel took the remarkable figures of 4-3 from his four overs, three of which were maidens, while Matt Shepherd (1-11) and Jack Greening (1-7) were equally as frugal.
Matt Williams hung around in making 11 and with Brett Hunter making an unbeaten 12, they did bat out their overs to reach 78-9. Aiden Gerry claimed 2-13 from his three overs at the end.
Needing less than four an over, Holsworthy could take their time and they did exactly that.
Although Ryan Walter was bowled by Hunter for a single, Shepherd and Poggenpoel took the score to 30 before Shepherd was caught by Harry Dymond off Andrew De Rosa for 20 off 19 deliveries.
Greening was in and out for a single, caught by Dymond off Matt Williams, and when debutant Fred King (9 off 9) and Poggenpoel (18 off 33) were dismissed by Mike Taylor (53-5), the game was on.
But with Bude having just four frontline bowlers, Holsworthy could afford to take their time and were seen home by Aiden Gerry (10no) and debutant Chris Pomeroy (18no) with five balls to spare.
Matt Williams’ four overs cost just six while Hunter (1-11) and Taylor (2-17) both kept it tight.
The next game in the group will see Bude host South Petherwin at Crooklets before or on Thursday, June 8.
