HOLSWORTHY Cricket Club held their annual presentation at the White Hart Hotel in the town on Saturday, October 27.

Over 30 members were in attendance which started with a sit down carvery, followed by speeches from chairman Dave Gerry, club captain Ryan Walter and groundsman George Wilcox before George joined fellow youth co-ordinator Dan Marks in discussing the juniors before the presentation of the trophies were made.

Overall it was another successful season for the Stanhope Park outfit. In the LWC Drinks Cornwall Cricket League, they finished fourth in their first ever season in Division Three East after winning 12 and losing seven of their 20 games with one being cancelled, while there were some excellent individual performances from a mix of youngsters and experienced heads in Division Three of the North Devon Sunday League.

Reflecting on the summer, Walter, who will be in charge for a tenth consecutive season in 2019, was pretty pleased.

He said: “At the start of the Cornwall League season, we’d have been happy with where we finished but in the end third place was in sight, and we didn’t quite do enough to get third so it was a little disappointing looking back.

“But overall it was a very good season for our first year in Division Three. Hopefully we can keep the same side and have a bit more consistency in selection.

“I’ll be happy again if we can build on this year. The target will be the top four and a consistent side with the possible additions of a couple new faces, alongside some of the younger players stepping up, will hopefully enable us to do that.”

The trophies were divided into three sections — encompassing the two leagues they play in as well as overall club awards, including all-rounder Jack Greening who won the main award of the night — the Club Player of the Year after scoring 400 runs and taking 31 wickets in all competitions at an economy rate of just 3.25.
