THERE was a whole host of excellent performances from players from Post area clubs across the LWC Drinks Cornwall Cricket League on Saturday as well a couple of standout ones from South Petherwin’s Michael Clements and Bude’s Matthew Williams.

Clements became the first double centurion of the 2018 season as he thrashed a remarkable 223 for Petherwin’s seconds against their Pencarrow counterparts in Division Six East.

His innings which was over inside 35 overs, contained 35 fours and nine sixes as the home side ran up a remarkable 409-8 off 40 overs.

In reply, struggling Pencarrow were all out for just 67 with Michael Searle taking 5-14.

Much higher up the league spectrum saw a phenonemenal bowling performances from Bude’s Matthew Williams.

After being bowled out for 179 at St Blazey in?Division Two East, which included 28 from Williams, the off-spinner then bowled 7.3 overs without conceding a run as well as taking four wickets as they bowled out the home side for just 80.

Across the rest of the leagues there were some other excellent feats.

Callington wicket-keeper Joe White hit a career-best 85 for the club at Truro in their 204 all out before the ECB?Cornwall Premier League champions chased it down for the loss of seven wickets with leg-spinner Harry Sawyers collecting 3-26 from his 10 overs.

Werrington seconds picked up their fifth win already to remain solidly in mid-table in County Division One after coming out on top in a thriller at Roche.

After keeping the hosts to a par 248-7 thanks to tight bowling from Danny Warne (1-35 from 10) and Ian Worsnip (1-25 from 10) and the wickets of Darren Webber (4-55 from 10), the visitors were struggling at 152-6 before Warne (26) and Webber (48 off 29 balls) combined to put on a quickfire 61.

However once Webber departed with 18 required, Worsnip (16 not out) and Daniel Jenkin (6no) kept their nerve to clinch a brilliant comeback.

Launceston are still winless in County One after a five-wicket defeat at Gorran despite racking up 256-6.

Nine-man Milton Abbot moved back off the bottom of the table with an eight-wicket victory over Newquay thirds at Baxter Park.

Opening bowlers Nathan Patrick (3-19) and Tom Rickard (3-20) did the damage as the visitors were all out for 112 before Jake Phillips’ unbeaten 53 carried them home.
