THE LWC Drinks Cornwall Cricket League has finally been able to confirm the makeup of the divisions for 2018.

There was originally doubts in County Division One, which eventually saw Ludgvan and St Minver demoted for failing to meet Clubmark criteria, which allowed Roche and Werrington seconds to be reprieved.

Following some further uncertainties just before the new year, Praze requested to withdraw from Division Two West, due to a shortage of players. As a result, the league has had to consult with nine other clubs in order to restructure the divisions.

For the first time since the formation of the Premier League in 2001, there will be 12 teams in the top flight. Wadebridge and Camborne join last year’s line-up, which includes a Werrington side who’ll be looking to push for their first title since 2015.

Beacon, Redruth seconds, St Erme and Launceston were promoted to County Division One with the latter looking forward to local derbies with Callington and Werrington seconds.

In the eastern section, Tideford and Ladock replace South Petherwin in Division Two while last year’s Division Four champions Holsworthy will play in the fourth tier for the first time in their history since joining the Cornwall League in 2008. They’re joined by Duloe who’ll look to consolidate after consecutive promotions, while Luckett seconds will look to regroup after two incredibly tough seasons in Division Three in a much more friendly looking Division Four.

Lanhydrock seconds, Milton Abbot and Pencarrow will also play in Division Four, with Milton Abbot playing at that level for the first time since joining from the Tamar League.

St Minver and St Blazey’s decision to concede twice last term meant that they were automatically relegated despite not finishing in the bottom two. The rest of last year’s line-up remain, which includes Post area teams Bude seconds, Launceston seconds and Delabole.

The experiment of Division Five being split into five divisions across the county has been abandoned as the gulf between the top and bottom of each division proved too big.

There will be 12 teams in Division Five East and West, ten teams in Division Six East and West and an eight-team Division Seven West, which will have four additional games to give an 18-game season.

The season runs from Saturday, April 21, to Saturday, September 8, in all divisions apart from divisions six and seven which start on Saturday, May 5, and end on the last weekend in August.
