Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League preview — Saturday, August 17

WITH Penzance seemingly cruising to a first ECB Cornwall Premier League title, attention turns to the bottom of the table with Callington and Falmouth set to battle it out to avoid the drop.

With four games to go, Callington are ten points clear but most importantly have to go to Trescobeas on the final day.

This weekend both teams are away at the top two with Callington going to Redruth and Falmouth to Penzance.

Third-placed Werrington, now a massive 45 points off the top, host in-form St Austell.

In County Division One the relegation battle has heated up in the last fortnight with Werrington winning twice while rain and poor form from the others means they are now just six points behind Ludgvan.

Crucially for Ludgvan they face winless St Austell this weekend while Werrington head to mid-table Helston.

Launceston are 24 points clear of the bottom two but defeat at home to Lanhydrock coupled with wins for Ludgvan and Werrington will tighten the table right up.

Crucially, Werrington welcome Launceston and Ludgvan in the coming weeks.

All games from this weekend in the top two divisions start at 12.30pm from this weekend.

In Division Two East, St Minver are four points from safety ahead of the visit of leaders Newquay while Bude and Luckett will look to secure another win to enjoy the rest of the year in mid-table.

Bude welcome Saltash Town while Luckett go third-placed Wadebridge seconds.

In an ultra-tight Division Three East, just nine points separate the bottom four.

Bottom club Roche seconds go to their Callington counterparts while Launceston seconds and Bude seconds have difficult looking trips to St Blazey and Newquay seconds. St Neot, eight points above second bottom Launceston welcome South Petherwin.

Runaway leaders Holsworthy go to Boconnoc and Tintagel welcome St Austell.

Division Four and below have just two games left to decide their fate. Werrington thirds know that 40 points from a possible 40 will guarantee promotion. They’ll have a great chance to get the first 20 of those when they travel to Luckett seconds.

Already relegated Delabole will hope to do Werrington a favour when they go to Saltash St Stephens who are a point further back. Every bonus point is crucial.

In Division Five East, both South Petherwin seconds and Milton Abbot are secure in mid-table ahead of their penultimate fixtures.

Petherwin could leapfrog Wadebridge thirds with a win at Kennards House while Milton Abbot make the long trip to promotion-chasing Newquay thirds.

In the basement tier, St Minver need just two points to secure the title. That should come at nearest challengers Liskeard who themselves need to win to stave off the attentions of St Austell fourths.

Tintagel seconds still have an outside chance of promotion. They head to Gunnislake while elsewhere, Launceston thirds host Boconnoc seconds and Werrington fourths welcome St Stephen seconds.
