Callington skipper Joe White is looking forward to a big weekend for the club culminating in their first appearance in the Tribute T20 Kernow Crash Finals Day at Grampound Road on Bank Holiday Monday.
Before that they face Camborne in the ECB Cornwall Premier League on Saturday.
The two sides haven’t met since 2018, when Callington avoided relegation at Camborne’s expense.
Since then, both sides have changed markedly.
White said: “We go into it full of confidence after a great win, but they’re a decent team and beat Truro on Saturday.
“They are a solid all-round unit with their bowling being their strength.
“But to be honest we don’t know all that much about them as we haven’t played them for a while, as they came up after winning promotion in 2019.”
Finals Day sees Callington face Wadebridge at 10.30am before defending champions Penzance host Redruth in the second semi at 1.30pm.
The final is set for 4.30pm.
White wants his side to continue from where they left off in the group stages, where they won double-headers against Werrington and Truro before the rain ruined their fixtures with Redruth and Wadebridge. “We’ll be taking a lot of support down there and will pick from a strong squad that will go and play attacking and fearless cricket.
“We see it as a positive playing first, as if we win, it gives us the opportunity to rest up and watch the opposition before the final.”
White believes their semi-final is likely to be won and lost when they field.
He said: “Their bowling line-up is pretty solid, but they’ve got some very destructive players in their batting line-up in the likes of James Turpin, Matt Butler, Kelvin Snell and Matt Robins, so we need to get stuck into them early, else it’ll be tough.
“Like us they’re a young and hungry squad, so we know we’re going to have to play at our best to beat them.”Callington have announced a 13-man squad for Monday.Only opening bowler Sam Pengelly is unavailable with Nick Parker, Ryan Brown and 14-year-old Ben Alford likely to be vying to replace Pengelly.Callington T20 Finals Day squad —Aidan Libby, Kian Burns, Rhys Davies (wkt), Dan Davis, Luke Brenton, Ollie Allsop, Joe White (captain), Rob Mutch, Matt Petherbridge, Harry Sawyers, Nick Parker, Ryan Brown, Ben Alford.
