AS the Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League season approaches the halfway stage, things are starting to hot up across the divisions with the Post area clubs in the thick of it.

In the ECB Cornwall Premier, defending champions Werrington are 25 points off leaders Redruth after losing by 90 runs at Penzance last Saturday.

They are again away this Saturday as they make the trip to St Austell (1pm).

Werrington will hope old foes Callington to do them a favour when Redruth head north. Callington have won just once in five starts but are 15 points clear of bottom side Falmouth.

Last weekend’s results in County Division One have tightened things up.

Struggling Werrington seconds beat Beacon and are at home once more to mid-table Helston while Launceston, now just 19 points above their local rivals in the second relegation spot, head to Lanhydrock knowing a victory could see them overtake their hosts.

In Division Two East, mid-table sides Bude and Luckett are in action at Saltash Town and at home to Wadebridge seconds respectively, while St Minver go to leaders Newquay.

In Division Three East, top-of-the-table Holsworthy are at home to Boconnoc while their nearest challengers St Blazey go to basement side Launceston.

Elsewhere, Tintagel go to St Austell thirds, South Petherwin entertain St Neot, Callington seconds are at their Roche counterparts and Bude seconds welcome Newquay twos.

There’s a battle of the Post area clubs at Werrington as their second-placed third team entertain Luckett seconds while Delabole welcome promotion-chasing Saltash St Stephens.

South Petherwin seconds head to mid-table Wadebridge thirds in Division Five with Milton Abbot hosting Newquay thirds.

The basement division fixtures see the top two clash at St Minver with Liskeard the visitors. Elsewhere, Boconnoc seconds, who are propping up the rest, entertain Launceston thirds and Werrington fourths go to St Stephen seconds.

Tintagel seconds welcome Gunnislake.
