Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League preview — Saturday, August 3

CALLINGTON will hope for a favour from Werrington when the North Cornwall side visit bottom club Falmouth on Saturday in the ECB Cornwall Premier League.

Falmouth are 14 points adrift of Joe White’s men with six games remaining, meaning every point is crucial.

Werrington themselves are sitting pretty in second but a fifth title in eight years may prove impossible as they sit 27 points behind leaders Penzance.

Callington are at home against a Truro side who will be smarting from their embarrassment of being bowled out for 46 by Wadebridge last weekend when Callum Wilson had the remarkable figures of 10-4-19-9, the third best in Premier League history.

In County Division One, Launceston have a tough trip to title-chasing Redruth seconds, who are just four points off leaders Camborne.

Launceston, who have Sam Pengelly in charge for the first time in the absence of the holidaying Kevin Worth, travel having won their last three to move up to seventh but will need to pull out all the stops.

Werrington seconds know that they must win a high percentage of their last six games to have any chance of survival, and welcome Gorran.

The visitors have struggled in recent weeks before beating Ludgvan last weekend and are 36 points clear of Saturday’s hosts.

In Division Two East, St Minver head to mid-table Luckett looking to build on their nine-wicket win over Saltash Town and fourth-placed Bude make the trip to champions-elect Newquay, who have won all 16 of their outings.

In the fourth-tier, leaders Holsworthy will look to bounce back from their first defeat of the season when they welcome Callington seconds, while ten miles away on the North Cornwall coast, Bude seconds entertain their Roche counterparts in a vital relegation battle.

Should either side win they will move out of the bottom two if Launceston seconds lose at home to Boconnoc who themselves aren’t completely out of danger yet.

If Launceston do win and Tintagel beat St Neot at Butts Field, then they could move up to fourth from last.

Werrington thirds welcome Saltash St Stephens to Ladycross in a top-of-the-table encounter in Division Four East. With just three games to go after this one, a win for the visitors would hand them a huge advantage but a home win would likely see them go top.

Elsewhere, both clubs will hope Delabole can pull off a surprise when they entertain Buckland Monachorum while Luckett seconds make the long trip to Gorran twos.

In Division Five East, South Petherwin seconds could leapfrog their St Blazey counterparts into third with a convincing victory over them while Milton Abbot go to third-bottom Tideford seconds.

In the basement division, St Minver seconds will look to close in on the title when they welcome in-form Launceston thirds, third-placed Werrington fourths go to high-flying Liskeard.

Elsewhere, Tintagel seconds and Gunnislake are both on their travels at Menheniot-Looe thirds and St Stephen seconds respectively.
