Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League preview — Saturday, August 24

STRUGGLING Callington welcome champions-elect Penzance to Moores Park in the ECB Cornwall Premier League on Saturday (12.30pm).

Joe White’s side are 12 points clear of basement club Falmouth who welcome third bottom Grampound Road to Trescobeas knowing that a win, coupled with a heavy defeat for Callington, should see them leapfrog their rivals.

Elsewhere, defending champions Werrington, 16 points adrift of second-placed Redruth, head to Wadebridge looking to build on their convincing win over St Austell on Saturday.

In County Division One, both Post area clubs meet at Ladycross as Werrington seconds welcome Launceston.

While the visitors are 38 points clear of the drop, Werrington are 19 points from safety but crucially have fellow strugglers Ludgvan at home next weekend, meaning there’s still plenty to play for.

In Division Two East, St Minver, two points away from third bottom Saltash Town, go to second-placed Menheniot-Looe looking to continue their recent improvement.

Luckett welcome relegated Ladock to Chapel Field. Ryan Brown’s men are 21 points clear of the bottom two going into the game.

Bude could finish as high as third and make the long trip to St Erme, who have won five in a row to drag themselves away from danger.

The closest division to call is Division Three East where both the title and relegation places are yet to be decided.

Leaders Holsworthy have lost their last three completed games but will expect to beat freefalling St Neot at Stanhope Park.

St Neot have fallen to within a point of the bottom two which are currently occupied by Bude seconds and their Launceston counterparts.

Bude host Callington seconds who themselves have lost four of their last five while Launceston welcome Tintagel, who are fresh off five straight victories.

With just five points between fourth bottom Roche and Launceston, every point is crucial.

Two in-form sides meet at Kennards House as South Petherwin welcome Newquay seconds, knowing that a win will put them third.

It’s the final day in divisions four, five and six with Werrington thirds needing to gain two points more than Saltash St Stephens to secure promotion.

Duloe are the visitors to Werrington while Saltash go to Buckland, who themselves will be promoted if Werrington and Saltash lose.

Bugle have a game in-hand and host Luckett seconds, knowing that 22 points in those will see them make a return to Division Three.

Elsewhere, relegated Delabole host Grampound Road.

In Division Five, Milton Abbot welcome bottom club St Erme seconds while mid-table South Petherwin seconds head to their St Neot counterparts.

In the basement tier, champions St Minver seconds face Werrington fourths and Launceston thirds and Gunnislake are on the road at St Stephen seconds and Boconnoc seconds respectively.

Tintagel seconds conclude their campaign at home to St Austell with the winners finishing third.
