There were some exciting and closely-fought encounters during the landmark 30th Crafthole District Chuches Table Tennis Club annual championships in Antony Village Hall.

The programme began with the Junior under 18 singles and although both competitors were only 11 it was a skilful and entertaining encounter in which Shay Stone won against Sam Bacon 11-8, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9 to win the T & J Rogers Cup.

This was followed by the under 10 singles won by Harry Stacey by two sets to one against Holly Davis with both players performing well for their young age.

Shay Stone, partnered by Joshua Payne, won the under 18 doubles by three sets to one over their opponents Finn Lovell and Cailan Robertson. In a closely-fought encounter 10-year-old Finn Lovell caused a bit of a surprise by edging home against Shay Stone in a see-saw match 11-9, 11-7, 1-11, 4-11, 11-6 to win the Meliss Dunn Trophy in the under 12s singles match.

Another five setter was the senior drawn doubles won by Roger Simpson and Geoff Cadwallader over Paul Ager and Pete Nicholson 9-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-7, 11-7.

Grant Pomeroy won the non-league singles (Barkway Trophy) with a three straight games win against Jason Knell, and showed they should do well when they play for the first time in the Plymouth League next season for the club's D side.

In the main event, the open singles, there was a new winner of the Fred Paul Shield when Jacob Kodicek defeated the previous title holder Harry Nicholls in three straight games.

In the evening's final event Paul Ager retained the reserve singles in a repeat of last year's final by winning by three games to one against teammate Roger Simpson.

The Terry Metters Cup for the Most Improved Club Player was awarded to Adam Killeya who, during the 2014/15 Plymouth league season, topped the division five averages for the club's D team, losing only six matches of 54 played.

Another D team player, Kevin Jones, who performed well in his first season in the Senior League Table Tennis was runner-up.

Presentation of awards were made to those who took part in the club's South East Cornwall Junior League which included the division one Woolwich Shield being presented to the winners, Saltash Community School A, and runners-up Crafthole District Churches Ambassadors. Division Two winners Torpoint Community College B, and runners-up Saltash Community School B, who also won the Most Sporting Team Trophy.
