HELLAND?Table Tennis Club has welcomed support from the parish council, following their teams' successful introduction to the North Cornwall Table Tennis League.

Both teams participate in Division Two of the league, and made impressive starts to their respective campaigns.

In light of this, the parish council recently agreed to pay for the league club's league fees.

The teams' matches involve travelling to Launceston and Bude, and club member Alan Carruthers was grateful for the council's support.

He said: "Bearing in mind this is our first season, there is no doubt that standards are being raised.

"All the table tennis players are grateful for this encouraging support from the parish.

"Don't forget, all novices and seasoned players are more than welcome to join us on Tuesday evenings in Helland Village Hall, where the club meets at 7pm.

"Also, the table tennis players would like to thank Maggie and Rob Summerfield, who have now moved to St Austell. They were instrumental in getting the club up and running, and we hope that they can still participate."
