SATURDAY, March 3, saw Penryn College, play host to the Annual Cornwall Youth Badmintons Under-13 County Championships, kindly sponsored by Dairy Crest Davidstow, producers of the Cornish Cathedral City Cheese, writes Kerry Sillifant with John Tresidder.
Following the group stages, Tyler Sillifant (Launceston), defeated Mark Pearson (Penryn) 21-1, whilst Ollie Cavil (Penryn), accounted for Sam Tucker (Launceston), in a much closer contest, 21-17.
This resulted in Tyler and Ollie, the number one and two seeds, respectively, meeting in the final, in which Tyler ran out the winner, in two straight ends of play, 21-4, 21-8.
Tyler and Ollie later met Sam and Elliot Dyer (Truro) in the final of the Boys' Doubles.
The experienced pairing of Ollie and Tyler comfortably took the first end, 21-13; however, Sam and Elliot rallied in the second end and put up a fantastic performance eventually just going down to Tyler and Ollie, 22-20.
