ST-GILES-ON-THE-HEATH Karate Club held its first belt grading recently.

The grading was assessed by Mr Roger Clarke, who is one of the top class instructors in the country.

Some members achieved blue belts, others yellow and one orange.

The club's instructor is Mr Chris Sargent, and he has trained the youngsters to a very high standard.

St-Giles' karate organisation was formed nearly two years ago, after the previous martial arts club folded and the mats were removed.

A new set of mats have been obtained by the parish council, and thanks have gone to clerk Mrs Adele Jones and James Jarroudi of Torridge District Council for all their hard work in getting hold of them.
