CALLUM ’Young Guns’ Charnock is the Class 3 under 54kg National Schools Champion after defeating Rocky Hutton at the newly formed, Amateur Boxing Alliance’s (ABA) 2017 National Schools Championships in London on Sunday, February 12.

The 14-year-old from Launceston Amateur Boxing Club, narrowly defeated London’s David McDonagh in the semi-finals to set up a tasty looking final against Hutton.

Callum gave his all against a tough opponent, landing hurtful hooks to the head and body of the Folkestone boxer, which caused the referee to intervene in the third round and issue a standing eight count. Callum poured on the pressure as the end of the contest drew closer to try and give the judges more to score in his favour. Following the final bell, Callum’s hand was raised as he won by a unanimous decision.

The Launceston club are extremely proud of Callum’s achievement and local boxing fans will get a chance to see him in action when he appears on the club’s upcoming show in June.
