A FINE, sunny day and a good easterly wind saw 14 dinghies cross the start line. Jane Anderson got a really good start and in the process allowed Steve Axford no water at the buoy which meant that he had to do a 360 degree turn around to get back across the line. This allowed Bob Sampson Louise in the RS200 and to slot into second around Dam Green buoy behind Jane with Adeney Pooley doing well in third. There was then a close knit group of three Laser 4.7s headed by Sue Murray followed by Rachel Pomeroy in the first Topper and Toy Tobias crewed by Annie Quartermain in the Bosun. As the boats headed to inlet via Zebra and Middle Bob managed to overtake Jane and gradually the boats sorted themselves into groups. Leaving inlet to head to far John Duncalf managed to ground his Topper on the point coming out of inlet and later in the race Rachel also befell the same mis-fortune. Steve Axford was beginning to make amends for his poor start and worked his way through to second behind Bob. Jane Chadney also managed to move to the head of the Laser 4.7s whilst James Pollard seemed unable to make ground. At the finish Steve Axford had managed to create a sizeable lead, but not quite enough to beat Jane Anderson on handicap. Nathan Pollard sailing to his normal high standard achieved a good third on handicap. For the full report, and a round-up of the area news and sport, see this week's edition of the Post.
