North Cornwall Table Tennis League 2017/18 weekly round-up

By David Sillifant

THERE was a much-reduced programme in the final round of league fixtures in the North Cornwall Table Tennis League last week.

With no games in Division One after Helland B’s clash with Budehaven A was postponed, there was just one clash in the second-tier as Budehaven C travelled to struggling North Hill B.

The away side won 8-2 as Anthony Ward and Andrew Ward both won all three of their singles outings before winning a final game decider in the doubles.

Trevor Luckhurst and Dave Aplin both beat Chris Mill to pick up North Hill’s points with Mill getting the better of Michael Kinger.

The matches between Launceston and Budehaven B and Bridgerule and Whitstone Wanderers were also rescheduled for later in the season.

In Division Three there were two games with Budehaven E yet again winning 5-0 — this time against their D team.

Cayden Gill pushed Robin Worden and Tim Orchard all the way but experience showed as they closed out victories as well as comfortable wins over John Gillin.

There was a much closer affair at North Hill as their C team were edged out 3-2 by Bridgerule B.

John Parker was the star player on the night as he beat both Nick Brewer and Jimmy Rickett, but both of the visiting players beat Helen Aplin to set up a decider in the doubles.

Brewer and Rickett held their nerve to win in four sets and move up to fourth in the table.
