A YEAR 9 student at Budehaven Community School has been selected for a Cornwall Girls' cricket team to tour South Africa next February 2016. Amber Cummins will take part in the tour as part of a mixed age under 15s and under 17s squad.
Cornwall Cricket Board and Cornwall Schools Cricket Association have been organising boys' cricket tours to South Africa and the West Indies for some 20 years, but this is the first ever girls overseas cricket tour so is quite ground-breaking.
Of all the other counties, only Devon and Kent have done anything like this before but with the increased profile and standard of women's cricket it is a natural progression.
Individually the girls need to raise around £2,200 and although the tour is almost a year away Amber will start fundraising as soon as possible.
